New semester: slate’s wiped clean, tabula rasa, new strivings, etc. Time to stretch those intellects and soar aloft!

Or, on a more down to earth note, be sure to notify the Graduation Office  by January 22, 2010, of your intent to graduate if you’re planning that big event for this spring.  Follow this link http://db.metrostate.edu/webapps/drep/Intent_to_Graduate_12_07.doc to find the form.    Then schedule an appointment with your advisor for the Graduation Review, to ensure that all your credits are in order.

If you’re new to the English Major, it’s worth checking how many of your transferable English and Literature classes count toward Metro’s English Major. Advisors can be helpful.

Everyone else, have a wonderful semester of reading and writing….and playing on the blog!

New Main

Hey, Everyone! Come see me tomorrow (Thursday, Oct 15, 3:00-6:00) in New Main. A whole bunch of graduate programs will be setting up tables and displays in the Great Hall. You can talk to representatives of several different kinds of programs — from professional schools in nursing and business to traditional scholarly programs.

I’ll be camping at Metropolitan State’s very own MLS table. MLS, you ask? Why, the Master’s of Liberal Studies Program, I reply with great excitement. See me at the fair or contact me via my campus email to discuss this interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences master’s degree in more detail.

There really is life after the bachelor’s!

If you’re planning to graduate this semester with a December diploma, be sure to  fill out the Declaration of Intent to Graduate form. The deadline is this Friday, September 18, 2009.  The form itself has a link for submission, so you’ll know exactly where to send your completed form.

It’s a good idea to zip an email to your advisor when you’ve submitted the form – just an FYI to keep him or her in the loop.

And…..CONGRATULATIONS!

My last discussion of Student-Designed Independent Studies must make it seem as though it’s impossible to get your proposal approved. It’s not impossible, however, and I’ll cite some of my experiences to show you how it just might be done. read more »

Are you interested in leaving the traditional classroom behind as you pursue an independent study you designed for yourself? Today’s blog frankly discusses whether you’re a good candidate for a student-designed independent study (SDIS) — and whether the University has the resources to support it. read more »
