Asteroids!
As some of you know, I was madly in love in the astronomer Carl Sagan when I was fifteen and then I went on to be a physics tutor in college: my first teaching gig.
I still have a soft spot for all things celestial and keep track of the dates of meteor showers. My holy grail since moving to the frozen north have been aurora borealis…the Northern Lights.
As a result, I’m a follower of NASA’s SpaceWeather blog. Do you know it? It’s a fun site that’ll send alerts to your mailbox or your phone if solar activity in our region seems likely to support the development of Northern Lights.
Today’s news included a video of the cloud of debris when a giant meteor exploded over Indonesia!! It’s a must see. Meteor Jatuh
What’s the weirdest or best thing you’ve ever seen in the sky?

You mean aside from Balloon Boy? Hmmm. Probably a metor shower from a dock in Wisconsin during a…um…romantic evening. It was like a blessing from the Universe!
And by “metor” I, of course, mean “meteor”. Wait, now that looks wrong. Spellchecking…please hold…Yes, I mean “meteor”.
I have always wanted to see the northern lights. When we were up north I did not have the opportunity. As far as weird in the sky I’ll go with something interesting here in Minnesota. I think it was about two years ago while coming home one evening There were beams of light extending from the ground to the sky. My family couldn’t figure out what they were as there multiple columns. On the news that evening they had video and explanation that I fail to remember. It was pretty cool though.
Bob, maybe it was Mystic Lake
Speaking about Carl Sagan, I actually read a book that Carl Sagan wrote which disproves and the popular topic of ESP and other phenomenons. I did see a metro shower when I was up in Duluth on vaction. I live far away from the city so I alway have a nice view of the stars at night which always is beautiful.
Not Mystic Lake! I tried to find articles on it but get to much UFO garbage on the net. This was on the news and in paper with pictures. It was some kind of weather phenomenom. Honest!
