BOO! It’s an English major.

Is that the scariest major you’ve ever seen? Don’t worry: though specters of coffeeshop serving might give you a  moment of dread, the myth of the unemployable English major needs to be put to rest — finally, and with a stake in its heart!

Today’s changing employment landscape actually provides great opportunities for English majors. Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief of the Princeton Review, lists English majors sixth in his “Top 10 College Majors” post. The list, he explains, is “based on research covering job prospects, alumni salaries, and popularity.”

Meanwhile, over at Forbes, Jeffrey Dorfman reports on the value of English and other liberal arts majors in “Surprise: Humanities Degrees Provide Great Return on Investment.“ Or try George Anders’ “14 Jobs for English Majors That Pay at Least $60,000.”  While you’re still at  Forbes, read Anders’ longer article on how the tech revolution may already have hit its peak. The maturing tech industry, he explains, is hiring more salespeople, content editors, managers, and communications directors than programmers in “That ‘Useless’ Liberal Arts Degree Has Become Tech’s Hottest Ticket.”
